'POW's In Stalag XXB'

I had a request from Tony Bowman for this picture to be placed on my website, in the hope that someone may recognise his Father 'George Henry Bowman' and other prisoners who were in Stalag XXB.

Below is an extract from Tony's email.

Dad 'George Henry Bowman', was a professional soldier (Private) before the 2nd World War, serving with the Durham Light Infantry.

He was part of the British Expeditionary Force to France and was captured at Dunkirk, then spent the rest of war as a POW in STALAG XXB.

He was one of those who walked to freedom when the Germans vacated the Camp.

Like many who experienced this he was very reluctant to talk about it (I gather they experienced a sense of shame that they had been captured when a lot of their friends and colleagues had been killed).

After the War Dad transferred to the Royal Army Educational Corp and finished up as a Captain before being medically discharged in 1970.

He died in 1975 at the age of 54.

Unfortunately we only have one photo from STALAG XXB. Dad is 4th from the right in the middle row.
